BOWLING CLUB
The Bowling Club meets weekly on Tuesdays throughout the
Indoor Bowling season from September to March. In addition to playing competitively within the club, it is one of
the nineteen clubs which make up the Six-Mile Water and District Indoor Bowling
League, playing nine home matches and nine away matches each season. This year,
the enthusiasm shown by the members of the club did not translate into tangible
success in this wider competitive arena, nevertheless, it was satisfying and
enjoyable to renew old acquaintances and make new ones on our travels to the
league matches.
After a year of dwindling memberships, it was heartening to
welcome a few new members from the congregation and the club was very pleased
with the return of former members to bolster our numbers. Indeed, some members
of the choir have proved themselves quite talented on the bowling mat. The long
standing members of the Bowling Club have not reciprocated their support, and
you will be pleased to note, have opted not to attend choir practice. These new
additions bring the club’s current membership to 22; still some way short of
the situation in 1975, when with membership restricted to 40, the Bowling Club
had a waiting list of 25 people wanting to join. There is still plenty of room
for more people to come along and join us. If you have never tried it, the
theory is quite simple. The fun comes in putting it into practice. Age is not a
barrier to participation as young and old compete on equal terms. So why not
come along, whatever your age, and give it a go? The club extends a very warm
welcome to anyone who would wish to join and is particularly keen to encourage former
members to return and give it their support. We look forward to seeing you.
